New Years-Good Times at the Guymon's

It is usually difficult to get all of the Guymon's together at one time, but this year we accomplished it New Year's weekend.  We had a great time playing games, eating yummy food, and bringing in 2011.

Kenya, Ashlee, and Alanna getting crazy with their hair!!! They love when they can finally all hang out!
The men decided that going clay pigeon hunting sounded like a blast.  I on the other hand thought it was too cold and stayed inside. If I remember correctly, Cody won the game they were playing.  From what Trav told me, they would shoot out a clay pigeon and one guy would get a change to shoot and if he missed the next guy would get a chance to shoot and if neither hit it, then the gun would move down the line.  I'm not 100% on that explanation, but I'm trying to record some history here :) From left to right...Adam, Austin, Mark, Paul, Travis, and Ray.  Photo: Compliments of Laura.

Paul and Trav

Usually we pick names and then we buy a gift that goes to the whole family, like last year we had Adam and Heidi's family, but this year we decided to just do a white elephant gift exchange.  It actually turned out pretty hilarious.

This is Ray literally modeling his Christmas sweater.

Miles got Trav's gift which was a Sham Wow, imitation Britney Spears perfume, and a little gun that shoots little plastic balls.

Cody got a Christmas tie that sings and nice Santa Antennas.

Ray was trying to surprise Marian with some jewelry that she had pointed out at the store.  We were trying to find a way to get it in her hands, but not be completely obvious.  Well she got to pick a gift first and didn't pick the one we needed her to so on everyone's turns after that, they took Marian's gift and then made her pick another one from the pile.  We were hoping she would pick the right one eventually, but everyone had to steal her gift before she FINALLY picked up her special surprise that was the last present on the floor.  It was hilarious.  I think she caught on a little, but we had a great time.

Kenya stole the Justin Beiber poster from me.

Mark's girlfriend, Naomi, ended up with the Breast Cancer Snuggie.

Megan got a coconut, Paul got Foot Powder, and Trav got some Andee's Mint Cookies.

We had a wonderful time on our trip to Huntington and we laughed SO SO much during this white elephant gift exchange.  I'm so glad that we got to get everyone together and we love Marian and Ray for hosting all of us!!!

Traveling back in time....

Monday, December 27th
Hill Air Force Base Museum

My Grandpa Ford has been volunteering at the Hill Air Force Base Museum for around 5 years now.  Trav and I had never been and Trav had said many times previously that he wanted my grandpa to give us a tour.  My Grandpa only volunteers on Monday until it closes at 4:30PM, so we hadn't had a chance to go.  On a last minute whim we decided to go to the museum during our Christmas Break.  My Grandpa gave us a tour of the first hanger, which included a lot of planes from WWI and WII and then told us about some of the guys who were honored  with plaques on the hallway down to the next hanger.  He did tell us of a story when him and his friend went riding before he got engaged to Grandma and the friend ended up clipping the wing on a power line.  They basically had to land with one wing and somehow they made it.
Once we got into the second wing, Grandpa followed us around, but had one of his friends, who also volunteers, give us a very detailed tour of  the planes that were newer than WWII.  This guy had tons of flying hours and had actually flown some of the models of planes that were in the museum.  It was so awesome to hear his person experiences and how amazing these planes are!!!  I definitely didn't understand all the terms, but I learned a lot!

This was Trav's favorite plane.  It was hard to get good pictures in the hangers.

This was my favorite plane.  It kind of looked like a stealth fighter and it was the fastest one.

A plane that one of the Presidents rode in.  I can't remember which one.

It was so fun to get a personal tour from my Grandpa and I'm so glad we took the time to go when we could.   On a side note, ,my Grandpa Ford has his pilot license and has always been fascinated with airplanes.  He is currently building a 2-seater in his garage for a hobby and one day my cousin, who follows in my Grandpa's love for airplanes, is going to fly it. I didn't realize that a free museum could be that awesome!  If you haven't gone, you should for sure go!  Thanks Grandpa for sharing with us a glimpse of what you love so much!
